Exhausts
A car's sound is an aspect often neglected by manufacturers, who want to satisfy the majority of their customers with quiet cars. Lovers of fine engineering and sporty sounds are therefore often disappointed that their car makes no noise.

To remedy this, we offer a wide choice of exhausts in premium materials such as stainless steel or titanium, which give your car lightness and a thrilling sound. We offer the biggest brands and the widest choice: for those who want a pleasant sound without investing too much, we have rear silencers at an affordable price; for the more ambitious, we have full systems and cat-backs with larger diameters than the originals.
Sports exhaust: silencer, cat-back or full system?
The parts of an exhaust system
From front to back:
- Downpipe: the first pipe at the turbo outlet, which often houses the catalytic converter.
- Centre silencer, or a resonator delete pipe for a fuller sound.
- Rear silencer (back box) and its tailpipes.
A cat-back replaces everything after the catalytic converter; a GPF-back everything after the particulate filter of recent petrol engines. A full system runs from the manifold or turbo to the tailpipes.
The sound: subtle or bold, on demand
A sports rear silencer mainly changes the sound; a cat-back adds a larger pipe diameter. On many models, controlled valves open depending on the driving mode; a valve controller (for example Milltek Active Valve Control) lets you choose a subtle sound in town and a more open one on the open road.
Stainless steel or titanium?
Stainless steel is the material of most sports exhaust systems (Milltek, Remus, Inoxcar…): strong, corrosion-resistant and the best value. Titanium, used notably by Akrapovic, is considerably lighter and takes on a bluish tint with heat, but costs more.
Tailpipes come in a variety of finishes (chrome, black, carbon) to match the style of the car.
Homologation and noise in Switzerland
A sports exhaust must be approved for your vehicle and comply with noise and emissions limits. Most require a Swiss declaration of conformity; a European TÜV certificate is not recognised as it stands. Where a certificate exists, it is supplied or offered at extra cost: see Homologations.
Parts without a catalytic converter or particulate filter are intended for off-road use: on public roads, the vehicle must remain compliant with emissions standards.
Downpipe, GPF and remapping
On a turbo engine, the downpipe is the part that frees up exhaust flow the most; it is often paired with a suitable ECU remap. Recent petrol engines have a particulate filter (GPF or OPF): a GPF-back lets you change the sound while keeping that filter in place.
For a complete project, also consider the intake and the intercooler.
Fitting in Geneva
Our workshop in Aïre fits exhausts bought from Rupteur, from a rear silencer to a full system, and can prepare the car for its inspection. Send us the registration number or chassis number and the system you have chosen for a quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is a sports exhaust legal in Switzerland?
Yes, if it is approved for your vehicle and complies with noise and emissions limits. A Swiss declaration of conformity is generally required, supplied or offered at extra cost where one exists. See Homologations.
What is the difference between a cat-back and a full system?
The cat-back replaces the section after the catalytic converter (centre section and rear silencer). The full system also replaces the front section, including the downpipe or manifold.
What is a GPF-back?
It is an exhaust fitted after the petrol particulate filter (GPF or OPF) of recent engines: it changes the sound and the look while keeping the original filter.
Does a sports exhaust increase power?
A rear silencer on its own mainly changes the sound. Power gains come rather from a downpipe or a full system, usually combined with a remap. Manufacturers' stated figures appear on the product pages where available.
Can I keep a subtle sound for everyday driving?
Yes, with a valved exhaust: when closed, the valves keep the sound close to standard; when open, the car makes itself heard. A valve controller lets you choose the mode yourself.
Do you fit exhausts in Geneva?
Yes, at our workshop in Aïre, on quotation depending on the system and the vehicle. We can also prepare the car for its inspection: inspection preparation.
