Suspension
At Rupteur, we put our expertise at the service of car enthusiasts who want to improve the looks, performance and road behaviour of their vehicle. As chassis and suspension specialists, we offer a complete range of solutions for lowering and optimising handling, suitable for both everyday use and more spirited driving.

If your aim is to lower your car slightly while keeping excellent everyday comfort, we offer lowering spring kits combined with sports shock absorbers. This basic lowering solution reduces ride height evenly, improves stability in corners and gives your vehicle a more dynamic look. Sports shock absorbers are specially designed to work in perfect harmony with lowering springs, ensuring better control of body movements, more precise response and safer driving.
For those looking for more lowering and personalised settings, Rupteur offers a wide selection of coilovers. These high-end suspension systems allow ride height to be adjusted to the millimetre, for a set-up perfectly suited to your vehicle and your driving style. Some coilover models also offer damping adjustment, giving you the choice between greater comfort on the road or a firmer, sportier set-up for maximum feel and precision.
Coilovers are particularly popular with demanding drivers who want full control over their suspension. Whether to improve grip, reduce body roll or fine-tune the vehicle's cornering behaviour, this solution lets you exploit the full potential of the chassis while maintaining excellent stability at high speed.
To go even further in improving handling, we also offer anti-roll bars. These components play an essential role in reducing body roll in corners and bring a significant gain in steering precision. Combined with high-performance shock absorbers or coilovers, anti-roll bars give more balanced, responsive and enjoyable handling, especially when driving dynamically.
For fans of pure performance, motorsport or track days, Rupteur also offers specific solutions and tailor-made products. We select equipment from recognised brands, designed to meet the high demands of sports driving and motorsport in terms of performance, reliability and durability.
By choosing Rupteur for your shock absorbers, lowering springs or coilovers, you benefit from a wide choice of products, expert technical advice and personalised support. Our goal is to help you find the ideal suspension solution, perfectly suited to your vehicle, your budget and your expectations, combining looks, safety and performance on the road and on the track.
Choosing the right shock absorbers and suspension
Lowering springs, coilovers or adjustable springs?
Three ways to lower a car and firm up its handling:
- Lowering springs: they replace the original springs and lower the body by a fixed amount, specified for each kit (for example −30 mm front and rear). This is the simplest solution, to be fitted on shock absorbers in good condition or sports shock absorbers.
- Coilovers: shock absorber and spring in one unit, with height adjustable on a thread. Depending on the model, the damping can also be adjusted (rebound, compression).
- Adjustable springs: height is adjusted as on a coilover, but you keep the original shock absorbers, for example when they are electronically controlled.
Comfort or sport: which coilover should I choose?
The ranges differ mainly in their adjustments. At KW, for example, the V1 has fixed damping, the V2 adjustable rebound and the V3 adjustable rebound and compression. The more adjustments there are, the more you can tailor the car to the road or the track.
For everyday use, a moderate drop keeps comfort close to standard and leaves enough clearance for car park ramps and speed bumps. For the track, a coilover with adjustable damping is stiffened on track day and then set back to road mode.
Homologation in Switzerland
In Switzerland, modified suspension must be compliant and, depending on the case, inspected during a vehicle inspection at the cantonal road traffic office. Most kits require a Swiss declaration of conformity (homologation certificate); a drop of more than 40 mm or camber-adjustable top mounts require a DTC certificate or equivalent. A European TÜV report is not recognised as it stands.
Where one exists for your vehicle, the certificate is supplied with the part or offered at extra cost. Full details on our Homologations page.
Top mounts, drop links and anti-roll bars
Around the shock absorbers, several parts wear out or can be upgraded:
- Top mounts: they connect the shock absorber to the body. When worn, they knock or creak when steering; they are often replaced together with the shock absorbers.
- Anti-roll bar drop links: a clunk over small bumps often signals a worn drop link.
- Sports anti-roll bars: stiffer than the original ones, they reduce body roll in corners without making the ride harsher in a straight line.
Finding the right kit for your vehicle
A suspension kit is designed for a specific vehicle: the engine, the drivetrain (front-wheel drive or 4×4) and the axle load change the part number. Choose your vehicle at the top of the page or in the vehicle directory: only compatible parts are shown.
Think about the wheels too: a lowered car has less room in the wheel arches. The tyre size calculator compares tyre sizes, and our alloy wheels are filtered for your vehicle.
Fitting and wheel alignment in Geneva
Our workshop in Aïre fits shock absorbers, springs and coilovers bought from Rupteur, with labour at a fixed price per axle. After lowering, a wheel alignment is recommended to protect the tyres and keep the car tracking straight: CHF 160 for a passenger car.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a shock absorber and a spring?
The spring carries the car's weight and sets its ride height; the shock absorber controls the spring's movement so that the wheel stays in contact with the road. The two work together: lowering springs on worn shock absorbers make a car that bounces.
Should shock absorbers be changed in pairs?
Yes, always per axle: both at the front or both at the rear. A new shock absorber alongside a worn one unbalances the car under braking and in corners.
Is a coilover comfortable for everyday driving?
It depends on the model and the setting. A coilover with adjustable damping can stay supple on the road; with a moderate drop, comfort stays close to standard. A very low and very stiff setup is better suited to the track.
Is a wheel alignment needed after fitting?
Yes, it is recommended: changing the ride height alters the toe and camber, and incorrect settings wear the tyres unevenly. Our Geneva workshop carries out a wheel alignment on a passenger car for CHF 160.
Are suspension kits approved in Switzerland?
Most require a Swiss declaration of conformity; beyond a 40 mm drop, a DTC certificate or equivalent. Where one exists for your vehicle, the certificate is supplied with the part or offered at extra cost. See our Homologations page.
How can I tell if my shock absorbers are worn?
The most common signs: the car dives under braking, bounces after a bump or wallows in corners, the tyres wear in a scalloped pattern, or oil runs down the shock absorber. Have them checked at a service.
Do you fit suspension bought online?
Yes, at our workshop in Aïre, Geneva, by appointment, with labour at a fixed price per axle. Send us the registration number or chassis number and the kit you have chosen for a quote: shock absorber fitting.
